On Places That Listen
Not every place is right for a retreat. On what we look for when we choose where to go.

There are places where you feel different immediately. You cannot say exactly why — it might be the light, the silence, the way the walls have absorbed years of slow life. You recognise them before you can describe them.
When we choose the location for an AROLISSE retreat, this is the first test: do you feel it before you can analyse it?
What we are not looking for
We are not looking for instagrammable places. We are not looking for boutique hotels with careful branding and facilities photographed from flattering angles. Those places have their purpose — it is not ours.
We are looking for places that do not try too hard. That have a quality of their own, acquired over time, not built for effect.
What we are looking for
We are looking for places with depth. An old inn modestly restored. A rural house with a real garden. A space where someone has lived with care, and you feel it in every detail — in the thickness of the walls, the light from the window, the way the smell of old wood enters into conversation with the air outside.
We are looking for places that know how to be quiet.
Romania, above all
We have a deliberate preference for Romania. Not from any resentment toward elsewhere, but because Romania still has places that have not yet been «discovered» and turned into destinations. Places where hospitality is real, not produced.
That may change. Until then, we go there.
Choosing the location is not logistics. It is part of the experience.
